From an early age, his father documented the past not only through photography but also through stories and expressions from earlier days. Between the two of them, they developed a unique view of the history of Island life. His father’s collection of Island sayings helps preserve a period gone by, reminding us of a lifestyle once commonly lived. MacDonald has built on this collection by including sayings from across the Maritimes and Newfoundland and Labrador, broadening the reader’s glimpse into Atlantic Canada’s past.
