The Watermark Music Series at Watermark Theatre in North Rustico continues this August with two unique concerts celebrating the stories, traditions, and creative spirit of Atlantic Canadian music.

On August 9, Songs From the Deep: Maritime Music and Sea Shanties dives into the rich musical traditions of the sea. Blending time-honoured sea shanties with contemporary Maritime-inspired songs, the concert explores life on the water through powerful harmonies and evocative storytelling. Featuring Sarah Segal-Lazar and the Butcher Hearts alongside the Luka Hall & Tiffany Liu Trio, the evening promises a moving celebration of the music and history of Atlantic Canada’s coastal communities.

“Maritime music is filled with stories of resilience, adventure, loss, and homecoming,” says series curator and performer Sarah Segal-Lazar. “This concert brings those stories to life through songs that have been passed down for generations alongside newer works that continue to reflect our deep connection to the sea. We hope audiences leave feeling inspired, moved, and ready to sing along.”

The series wraps up on August 23 with The Songwriters’ Songbook: Classic Tracks that Inspired New Tunes. This intimate performance features Island musicians Dennis Ellsworth, Jenina MacGillivray, and Shawn MacGillivray, who will share the songs that inspired their own songwriting alongside original compositions, offering audiences a glimpse into their creative process.
