Summer recitals

Lunchtime concerts at The Kirk in Charlottetown

The Kirk Summer Recitals continue this month with three lunchtime concerts. Performances in July begin at 12:10 pm and run approximately 45 minutes.

On July 9, Jacob Reddin presents a program for trombone and piano with pianist Frances McBurnie. A recent UPEI music graduate, Reddin begins a Master’s degree at Western University in September. Familiar to PEI audiences through his work with UPEI, the Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble, Luminous Orchestra, musical theatre productions, and his band the Striped Shirts, he has represented PEI at the National Music Festival three times.

On July 16, soprano Janey-Lynn Perrier presents a recital first performed during her Master’s studies at the University of Ottawa, with Frances McBurnie as collaborative pianist. The program will feature standard works from the classical vocal repertoire. A UPEI music graduate who studied with Sung Ha Shin-Bouey, Perrier has also represented PEI at the National Music Festival.

On July 23, pianist Kezia Albert presents a solo piano recital featuring works by Haydn, Schumann, Scarlatti, Mendelssohn, and Chopin. Albert is in her final year of the Bachelor of Music program at UPEI, where she studies with Dr. Magdalena von Echer.

Three additional programs are planned for August: Parker Clements, baritone, and Hannah O’Donnell, mezzo-soprano, with Morgan Saulnier, piano, on August 8 at 2 pm; Benjamin Rota, viola, and Julien LeBlanc, piano, on August 11 at 7 pm; and Nathan Wright, saxophone, Amy LeBlanc, flute, and Tony Liang, piano, (date tba).

Admission is by donation to the Kirk’s Choral Scholarships. The Kirk of St. James is located at 35 Fitzroy Street in Charlottetown.
