Georgetown fills with the spirit of live music, theatre and storytelling this summer at Kings Playhouse.
Sundays begin with a High Tea at the Playhouse at 1 pm. Located on the deck overlooking the A.A.Macdonald Memorial Gardens, High Tea celebrates the myriad of flavours that abound on our Island, including tiny lobster rolls, strawberry shortcake and rhubarb preserves. Visitors are invited to stroll into the gardens following the High Tea.
The Winkle Pickers a whimsical musical written by Hank Stinson, is directed by Becca Griffin and performed by the Playhouse’s new youth theatre troupe The United Unicorns. The Winkle Pickers plays Sundays at 3 pm.
Monday nights welcome Tellers & Tunes with Gary Evans and Rachel Beck. Master storyteller Gary Evans returns with new and well-loved stories and weekly guests. MusicPEI award winning folk artist Rachel Beck joins him in the sharing of story and song and welcomes weekly musical guests to the stage. Tellers & Tunes plays at 7:30 pm and July 8, 22, 29 and August 5, 12, 19 and 26.
Tuesday nights are filled with local music and lively dancing. The Hootenanny at the Playhouse is hosted by Jo-Anne Ford. This open mic, kitchen party style is complete with biscuits and jam. The party begins at 8 pm.
Murder Inn by Island playwright Jonah Anderson is on stage on Wednesday nights. This murder mystery all the trappings of a perfect comedic farce—suitable for the whole family. Murder Inn plays at 7:30 pm from July 10 to August 21.
The Haunted Georgetown walk features stories and fascinating (and eerie) facts about the capital of Kings county. Tours start at 9:15 pm on Thursdays.
In Down With Demon Rum, Hank and Rowena Stinson tell stories and sing songs about the prohibition era in Prince Edward Island. The evening is accompanied with a meal of fishcakes, beans and demon rum cake prepare by The Wheelhouse in Georgetown. Down With Demon Rum plays Friday evenings beginning at 6 pm.
