Young at Heart Theatre has announced the casting for Sadie Off the Rails, written by Diane Barnes and Wade Lynch, with musical arrangements by Don Fraser.
Shawna Van Omme is musical director, and also plays vaudeville entertainer Sadie Calhoun, who comes back to PEI for a musical tour. Shawna is known to Island audiences with her performances with the Charlottetown Festival; most recently appearing in Jesus Christ Superstar and Anne of Green Gables.
Olivia Barnes returns from Montreal, where she recently received her Graduate Performance Diploma from McGill University.
Nicholas Whelan is no stranger to PEI or Young at Heart Theatre. His last appearance with this company was in the popular musical The Big Red Radio Show.
Marlane O’Brien directs this musical, and has just come from directing Rumours at the Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside. Marlane is an actor, singer, director and playwright.
Stage Manager Jeana McIsaac rounds out the company. Jeana’s past credits include: Anne and Gilbert and the Pay-What-You-Can Theatre Festival.
Sadie Off the Rails was inspired by the true story of Miss Sadie Calhoun, a vaudeville stage and moving pictures star who visited PEI in the early 1900s and performed many hit shows to sold-out houses. The cast will take an imaginary trip by train across PEI, visiting the people and places that will be familiar with many of our audience members.
The tour runs March 28 to April 29. Booking opportunities are available. A performance will be held April 25 at 7 pm at St. Paul’s Church, Charlottetown. The evening will feature guests Kelley Mooney, Allison Kelly and Catherine O’Brien of Fascinating Ladies. Complimentary refreshments will be served. This is a fundraiser for this non-profit organization.
