The book launch for the Return Engagement under the Linden Tree is scheduled for July 7, from 2 to 4 pm at Beaconsfield’s Carriage House in Charlottetown.
Authors Doris Ewart, Shannon Murray and Richard Furlong worked together in television, at the CBC in Charlottetown in the early 1980s. Then their paths took different turns. They were reunited in 2017 after having no contact for more than thirty years.
The concept of their new book was born when, one day after Shannon and Richard had hooked up, they went and visited Doris. “I had no idea Doris was even on the Island,” Richard said. “Retired, I was a lot older now, but I knew Doris had a few years on me.“ I was very curious to see how she was doing. We arrived at her place and I was stunned—not only was she energetic, she was full of ideas. If I may squeal, Doris is now 94 and still runs her own show.
“During our visit, Doris asked me what I was doing? I told her I was in a writing group called TWiG and poetry was my thing. She asked me to bring poems and read them to her. I did at the next get together. In that moment the Return Engagement was born! Doris was really excited and said we must do a book—her family stories and my poems.” Shannon contributed by weaving everything together just like he always had when he was the graphic artist for CBC Charlottetown.”
Onward now to the launch where everyone is welcome to the Return Engagement.
