Bookmark, Charlottetown’s independent bookseller, hosts activities to celebrate the joy of books and reading during Read Town PEI Week.

May 12–18 New Baby Board Book Giveaway

Bookmark will give each new baby born at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown a gift bag of board books.

May 12 Literary Trivia At Upstreet Brewery

Your obscure (and bleeding obvious) literary knowledge can win you admiration from your peers and some cool bookish prizes at this Literary Trivia hosted by Greg Doran 7–10 pm.

May 13 Bookmark Readerity Series: Readers & Writers On Reading

John Flood presents “Then & Now” at The Queue, 70 Grafton St, 7–9 pm.

The Bookmark Readerity Series: Readers and Writers on Reading is Bookmark’s annual lecture series by a local reader or writer reflecting on books and reading. For the first time, the lecture has been re-produced as a limited edition chapbook which will be available to these attending the evening. Refreshments will be provided and a cash bar is available.

May 15 Book Launch With Thomas O’Grady

Thomas O’Grady will be at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery May 15 at 7 pm for the launch of his new book of poetry, Delivering the News.

May 16 Reading Marathon

By Chance Alone: A Remarkable True Story of Courage and Survival at Auschwitz by Max Eisen is the winner of Canada Reads 2019. A marathon reading of the book will take place at Bookmark from 9 am. Volunteer readers will read for about ½ hour each continuing until the complete book, By Chance Alone is read. Volunteers are needed. Email if you are interested.

May 18 Kids Reading At The Mall

Kids will read in the Food Court area at The Confederation Court Mall, 1–2:30 pm. Join Curious George and story time host, Barb Kissick for Story Time; dress up as a favourite book character and win an prize.

May 18 Cox & Palmer Island Literary Awards

The evening event for the Cox & Palmer Island Literary Awards takes place at Rodd Charlottetown Hotel, 75 Kent Street. Bookmark is sponsor and presenter of the 2019 Reading Town Reading Champion Award at the Awards. Award criteria enquiries and nominations can be directed to peiwritersguild @ Event starts at 7 pm.
