Parks Canada

Beaches, trails, historic sites, and more

The team at Parks Canada PEI is ready to welcome visitors to the beaches, trails, and historic sites this summer.

The Canada Strong Pass returns for the 2026 season, offering free admission and discounted camping at all Parks Canada-administered places until September 7. On PEI, that means free entry to PEI National Park and Green Gables Heritage Place.

This is great news but it also means higher visitation is expected, especially on hot, sunny beach days. Parking can be challenging, so for the best experience, check PEINow at parks.canada.ca/peinow for up-to-date parking status, surf conditions, beach closures, and important fire index information. Visitors are also encouraged to watch for signage, heed directions from team members, and slow down.

Family-friendly programming is available at both PEI National Park and Green Gables Heritage Place, including drop-in activities such as Beach Hut and Let’s Go Exploring, as well as the popular A’tuken evening campfire presented by the Mi’kmaq Heritage Actors at Cavendish Campground. Visit parks.canada.ca/pei-activities for more experiences.

At Green Gables Heritage Place, visitors can take in heritage animation, games, and races presented by costumed interpreters, along with the L.M. Montgomery and the Spirit of Place exhibit featuring Island artist Susan Christensen. New this year are guided site tours in English and French, offered twice daily, and the bilingual Maritime music presentation Songs and Stories on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tickets for these special events are limited and available on-site only on the day of the presentation. For details, visit or ask staff upon arrival.

Skmaqn—Port-la-Joye—Fort Amherst National Historic Site, across the harbour from Charlottetown near Rocky Point, offers a trail network, grounds for picnic, and rich history. The visitor interpretation centre is open Friday through Tuesday during July and August. Explore the outdoor exhibits, visit the traditional Mi’kmaw wigwam, and stop by the new Parks Canada Shop for Parks Canada merchandise and Indigenous crafts.
