The City of Summerside is seeking nominations for its annual Heritage and Culture Awards. The awards are given out to individuals and groups, which in 2021, carried out activities to preserve, promote, educate or celebrate heritage, arts, and culture in the community. The City recognizes the role of heritage, arts, and culture in building a strong, vibrant community and believes it is important for these endeavours to be recognized.

The public is invited to nominate candidates for the awards, which are presented at the Mayor’s Heritage Tea held during Heritage Week in February.  There are a number of categories for nominations: Heritage Activities, Cultural Activities, Publication of the Year, Youth and Adult Volunteers of the Year, and the Award of Honour. People are invited to think outside the box when considering a nomination. The preservation of heritage and the interpretation of culture take many forms. Examples include antique vehicle restorations, oral history projects, storytelling, performance, architectural preservation, special exhibits, digital projects, language preservation, family genealogy, natural heritage preservation and promotion, a new album, etc. There are unlimited possibilities!

The process for nominating is easy. The nomination form can be downloaded from culturesummerside.com, or a hard copy can be picked up at the MacNaught History Centre and Archives, 75 Spring Street, Summerside.

Nominations close on Friday, January 28, 2022 by 4 pm.
