Lucy Maud kids camps at Macphail Homestead

In honour of Anne of Green Gables author Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 150th birthday, and with the support of the Tourism Cavendish Beach and Central Coastal Tourism Partnership, the Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead is hosting a L.M. Montgomery children’s day camp throughout the summer. The camp will be held in the Homestead’s Great Room, which will be converted into a one-room schoolhouse classroom similar to the one-room school both Lucy Maud and Anne of Green Gables attended. Children will be able to experience a school day like Montgomery’s characters. Girls attending will wear a pinafore for the day and boys will be able to don a “Gilbert” cap and the “school” will have a selection of Montgomery books, the Anne of Green Gables cookbook, ink and pen sets and chalkboards. Reading excerpts from Montgomery’s books, creative writing, penmanship, baking recipes from her books for lunch and walking the Homestead property will be part of the experience. The one-day camp is open to children beginning in grade 3 and older on Tuesdays and Thursdays in July, August and September from 10 am–4 pm. All children welcome. Special family rate available. Pre-register at or 902-651-2789.
