At its 45th Annual General Assembly in Summerside recently, the Native Council of Prince Edward Island’s delegation re-elected its President & Chief, Lisa Cooper, for a second four-year term.
“I am thrilled to continue to represent the people who elected me as we move towards a time when all of the Indigenous citizens of this country are able to fulfill the extent of their human potential without barriers or limitations based on race, residency or affiliation.” stated President & Chief Cooper.
Though five candidates put their name forward for the position of President & Chief, the decision was made on the first round of voting. Chief Cooper promised that she will continue to address the social determinants of health for the off-reserve Indigenous community on PEI.
The Native Council of PEI (NCPEI) represents the interests of Indigenous people (Status, Non-Status, Métis, and Inuit) who live off-reserve. NCPEI is governed by an elected Board of Directors and Executive.
