The Montague Arts and Culture Festival celebrates the creativity, talent, and spirit of Eastern PEI through music, visual arts, local culture, and family-friendly activities on July 31 and August 1 at Waterfront Park. Highlights include Lennie Gallant headlining the festival’s evening concert on August 1, followed by PEI’s first-ever drone light show.
One of Canada’s most celebrated folk artists, Lennie Gallant is a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter whose career spans more than three decades. With 14 albums, countless sold-out performances, and songs that have been covered by artists around the world, Gallant has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s finest storytellers. His work has earned JUNO Award nominations, East Coast Music Awards, and international recognition for its heartfelt lyrics, captivating performances, and deep connection to Island life.
Following the concert, audiences will witness a spectacular new way to light up the night sky. Rather than a traditional fireworks display, the festival will present the Island’s first synchronized drone light show, featuring 100 illuminated drones creating animated images and vibrant displays overhead. The decision to replace fireworks reflects the festival’s commitment to creating an event that is both environmentally responsible and more accessible for everyone.
“While fireworks have long been a tradition at community celebrations, we wanted to explore an option that reduces noise while still delivering a truly memorable experience,” say festival organizers. “Drone shows minimize disruption to wildlife and pets while also creating a more welcoming environment for veterans and others living with PTSD, individuals on the autism spectrum, and anyone who finds loud explosions overwhelming. We believe this is an exciting way to celebrate while being more inclusive of our entire community.”
The Saturday evening finale promises to be one of the festival’s biggest highlights yet, combining the music of one of PEI’s most beloved performers with cutting-edge aerial technology in a first for the province.
All are invited to enjoy the festivities, which begin July 31 with performances by the Restone Drum Group at 7 pm and DeeDee Austin at 8 pm. On August 1, visitors can enjoy the parade at 11 am, sand artist Abe Waterman at 12 pm, DiverseCity Festival performances from 12 noon–4 pm, an evening performance by the Broad Cove Boys at 7 pm, Lennie Gallant at 8:30 pm, the drone light show at 10 pm, and a dance at the Montague Curling Club beginning at 10:30 pm.
