Kings Playhouse summer season begins with a dance-a-thon event called We Like to Move It. In partnership with Participaction and Go! East PEI, Kings Playhouse is hosting a dance and activity event for all ages and abilities on June 15 with food, music and prizes. For information and to register, contact info@kingsplayhouse.com.

A Closing Fit For Kings is the finale of the PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls on June 23, and features the Ennis Sisters, Rura from the UK, Sam’s School of Dance and is hosted by Patrick Ledwell.

The summer line-up has something for everyone, including a family musical, professional storytelling and music, comedy, and of course, the famous Haunted Georgetown Walks.

Monday evenings Gary Evans (of the Four Tellers) and singer-songwriter Rachel Beck will team up for “Tellers and Tunes.” Each week they will invite special story tellers and musical guests to join them.

Tuesday nights are Hootenanny nights beginning at 8 pm. This is a fun night of music and dancing in our hall in the ceilidh tradition.

On Wednesdays you’ll die laughing with Murder Inn by Jonah Anderson. Featuring talented Island actors, this murder-mystery-comedy will be the perfect “end” to your summer evening.

The popular Haunted Georgetown walks will continue on Thursday nights starting at 9:15 pm, with a ghostly tour through historic Georgetown.

Friday nights will feature dinner and theatre. Down With Demon Rum is an entertaining show with songs and stories of the old rum-running days on PEI. Enjoy a meal of fish cakes, baked beans, homemade biscuits and “demon rum” cake, while Hank and Rowena Stinson regale you with tales of adventure and mischief; some of the stories are true!

A new addition to the Kings Playhouse is a brand new youth theatre company. Several youth from the ages of 9 to 17 have been selected to take part in this new initiative. They will be presenting the musical The Winkle Pickers by Hank Stinson each Sunday at 3 pm in the memorial gardens. During the summer months the company members will also participate in workshops lead by professional actors, directors, musicians, designers and more.

Also on Sundays from 1 to 2:30 pm, enjoy High Tea on the deck of the Playhouse, overlooking the beautiful gardens.

Sing!Dance!Act! Create! Children’s camps will run from July 15 to 19 and August 5 to 9. Children ages 6-12 are invited to take part in a week-long camp where they will learn performance and creative skills. A public presentation takes place at the end of each week.

A concert series through the summer and fall will include Leisa Way’s Opry Gold on August 28. It’s a celebration of the Queens and Kings of country music. Leisa Way and the Wayward Wind Band deliver high calibre entertainment and musicianship. For tickets and information visit kingsplayhouse.com or call 1 888-346-5666 or 902-652-2053.
