Canadian songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and former Hey Rosetta! member KINLEY releases “Lightworkers”; a beautiful ‘call to action’ song about preserving a great love between two of the songwriter’s dear friends. Produced by Colin Buchanan at The Hill Sound Studio in Charlottetown, the track will appear on KINLEY’s sophomore solo album set for release on February 21, 2020.
“I wrote this love song for my best friend Chrissy and her amazing fiancé Ryan. It’s the story of them meeting and falling in love and becoming engaged, but also a call to all the Lightworkers (A lightworker is a special person that some people believe has an almost psychic ability to intuit what other people are thinking, feeling or need, in order to heal.) to help Ryan heal quickly from his cancer diagnosis,” shares KINLEY. “After a 14-hour surgery and many good vibes being sent to him, he has made an incredible recovery and they will be getting married in PEI at a later date!”
KINLEY’s forthcoming LP follows her 2016 acclaimed debut Letters I’ve Never Sent. The LP, which was described as “a deeply personal collection of diary entries-turned-letters to music”, garnered three Music PEI Awards, two East Coast Music Awards and featured the raw and deeply powerful lead single “Microphone.” A testimonial about her experience with sexual assault as a teenager, “Microphone” and its accompanying video has been featured at a number of film festivals and on public forums, but most importantly, has inspired an entirely new sexual health curriculum in PEI; with focus now placed on consent, gender norms, bystander intervention and sexual assault for all grade 9 Health classes. This summer, CBC’s flagship news program The National ran a piece on the impact the track has had on students and classrooms.
A successful and prolific musician, the Charlottetown-born artist has recorded on more than 70 albums, has had her tracks featured in a number of films, commercials and TV shows and is one of the most sought-after string players in Canada. Best-known for spending the past decade playing violin and singing back-up vocals for Newfoundland band Hey Rosetta!, KINLEY has toured all over Australia, the USA, Canada and Europe and appeared at notable festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and the Mumford and Sons Gentleman of the Road tour. Winner of the very first ‘Women’s Freedom Song Contest’ for her empowering track “Washington,” throughout her career, KINLEY has appeared on albums for Jenn Grant, Stars, Matt Mays, Inflight Safety, Rose Cousins to name a few, as well as loaned her talents to Classic Albums Live and Anne and Gilbert—The Musical. She has also performed multiple times with Grammy-award winning artist Anne Murray and in 2018 had the music video for her single “Golden Days” licensed by the PEI Government as part of its repatriation campaign.
