Island Photos Down Memory Lane and After Thoughts.. Conversations With Myself
Kathy Birt

Island author Kathy Birt, with 48 years of writing and 17 published books behind her, will launch two new titles in January: Island Photos Down Memory Lane and The After Thoughts… Conversations With Myself.
Birt began working on the photo book and her third memoir several years ago and made the decision to release both titles together.
Island Photos Down Memory Lane features Island landscapes and seascapes, accompanied by historical context gathered through extensive research.
She added historical details for each photographed location, noting that some images date back 20–30 years. While some scenes have changed over time, Birt believes this only adds to their historical value.
“There was a tragedy in my life February 1, 2024, and I put the books on the back burner until June of 2025,” shares Birt. Her son, Tyler Russell Jorgensen, took his own life on that date. “My heart was shattered into a million pieces. I still grieve to this day.”
After reviewing the printer’s proofs, Birt decided to dedicate The After Thoughts to her son.
“His name is mentioned several times in the stories. These would be stories I would have written several years ago. I just felt the dedication was what I wanted to do. I’ll miss my Tyler Russ forever.”
The book launch will take place on January 17 from 2–4 pm at the Benevolent Irish Society in Charlottetown. Parking is available.
