Hoofprints and Heartstrings: A boy’s memories of Maritime harness racing in the 1970s
By Russell Henderson
Saint John, NB native Russell Henderson’s first book, Hoofprints and Heartstrings: A boy’s memories of Maritime harness racing in the 1970s, is the latest to be published by RetroMedia Publishing in Charlottetown, PEI.
With passion and humour, Hoofprints and Heartstrings offers the reader a railbird’s seat of the jubilant highs and devastating lows experienced during the glory days of Maritime harness racing.
Growing up only a stone’s throw away from Exhibition Park Raceway in Saint John, NB allowed Henderson’s love of horses and harness racing to bloom. Though it was the lure of racing action that initially drew him in, it was the relationships he built with the four-legged athletes that had an everlasting impact on him.
The book was officially launched in October at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino in Charlottetown. The event was recorded and can be viewed online at retromedia.ca.
Hoofprints and Heartstrings is available now at retromedia.ca and at select local bookstores in PEI and NB.
