In the midst of the pandemic, it feels more important than ever to support our friends and neighbours before we go Christmas shopping at big box stores or place orders online. This was the perfect year for Discover Charlottetown to begin a new tradition of creating the Discover Charlottetown Holiday Wishbook. Inspired by the nostalgia and convenience of the original Sears Wishbook, it’s a modern approach that’s full of wonderful, local gift ideas for everyone on your shopping list. The digital book is available now online at www.discovercharlottetown.com/holiday-wishbook.
If any retailers would like to be included in the Wishbook and missed the initial call-out, please reach out to design@discovercharlottetown to be added to the next edition. The deadline for new submissions is 5 pm Wednesday of every week until December 17.
When the organization had to make the difficult decision to cancel their Victorian Christmas Market on the weekend of Nov. 27-29, they decided to add a section to the Wishbook for artisan vendors who would have been at the market. Discover Charlottetown has also worked with a number of the vendors to find spots at pop-up markets at Founders’ Food Hall & Market (Saturdays and Sundays) and The Confederation Court Mall over the coming weeks.
Discover Charlottetown is also encouraging the public to check out the remaining Christmas Festival events, such free wine tastings, tarot card readings, stilt walkers, Christmas Shows, carolers, and oyster pop-ups at various establishments. In addition to the festive programming and their Whoville-inspired Village along the Confederation Centre’s plaza and Victoria Row, they have partnered with restaurant owners to place 45 red Adirondack chairs on patios throughout the downtown core. These lovely chairs add to the streetscape, encourage people to embrace the cozy magic of Charlottetown, and offer a great photo op.
They’re also reminding everyone of the all-new Friday Night Retail Trail. The trail features a collection of shops staying open until 7 pm on Friday nights until December 13th, and offering special promos, holiday beverages, and treats. Discover Charlottetown sincerely hopes you’ll join them in buying your gifts locally and supporting Charlottetown’s incredible shops, restaurants and hotels this Christmas. Participating businesses are listed in the Holiday Wishbook and online.
