Edward J (Ed) McKenna will launch his new book Historic PEI: Vintage Postcards of Prince Edward Island on August 7 at Beaconsfield House in Charlottetown at 7 pm.

Throughout Canada’s early days, Prince Edward Island was a thriving province with a strong tourist industry. Historic PEI portrays the quaint lifestyle and the busy industry that Canada’s smallest province had to offer. With unique messages to friends and family, these early postcards paint a picture of history not available in history books. This book ties in with the Facebook page that Ed curates called Historic PEI.

Ed McKenna is an Islander by birth with a love of Prince Edward Island history implanted into his youth. Growing up in downtown Charlottetown meant that Province House and other historic properties often served as a backdrop for his many childhood adventures. A deeper appreciation for the history of Prince Edward Island and family genealogy came later in life after establishing himself in business and with family. While exploring his interest in Prince Edward Island history, McKenna entered into the hobby of collecting vintage postcards and has amassed a collection of over 3,000 cards. While studying the collection, it soon became apparent, he says, that the most joy in having such a large collection would come from sharing his interest with others.
