this town is small, PEI’s artist run centre, will present Gathered by Sara Austin at Receiver Coffee on Victoria Row in Charlottetown from October 13 to November 21.
Gathered is a series of ink drawings that display a fanciful gathering of creatures and flowers, their closeness a representation of memories past, and our longing to be gathered with our fellow creatures, bunched together like bouquets of flowers.
Austin’s focus and craft has shifted and developed over the past 18 years, as her techniques have evolved in her fields of artistic interest. The themes of her drawings and paintings are mainly abstract floral and animal, and whimsical whatnot, and are greatly inspired by her love of nature.
Austin was born in Wakefield, QC, and in 2016, after many years of moving to and fro, she decided to make PEI/Epetwitk her permanent home. From her own gardens, to the lush terrain that sprawls out beyond her home, she has found much inspiration for her work on this beautiful, albeit occasionally harsh island.
this town is small’s current exhibit, Traces & Traverses by emerging camera artist Doug Dumais, will remain on view at Receiver until October 10.
