REUSE
Installation by Victory Lap at Fitzroy St. Tiny Art Gallery
The Fitzroy St. Tiny Art Gallery presents REUSE, an installation of work by PEI-based artist Victory Lap.
Inspired by walks along PEI beaches, REUSE transforms the discarded into the functional. Constructed from salvaged and repurposed materials, the work reflects on cycles of consumption, waste, and renewal through the lens of coastal experience and material recovery.
Central to the piece is a sail from a small craft, upcycled into a waist bag. The artist’s fabric-based practice incorporates found and recycled materials while drawing on vintage and retro aesthetics. Through this transformation, the work invites consideration of the hidden histories embedded within everyday objects and the creative potential of reclamation.
Victory Lap is a one-person operation run by designer and maker James Hogan. James hopes to preserve local history by saving textiles that have otherwise been discarded. Each of his functional upcycled pieces features unique characteristics and is made sustainably, ethically, and with longevity in mind. Other works can be seen at Green Eye Designs in Charlottetown and at victorylapsewing.ca.
Curated by Monica Lacey, REUSE is on view 24/7 through mid-July at the corner of Fitzroy and Felling Streets in Charlottetown.
