SUMMARY:The Bog Tour
DESCRIPTION:Beaconsfield Historic House announced the return of the Bog Tour\, an immersive guided walking experience exploring the history of Charlottetown’s Bog neighbourhood. This powerful program honours the legacy of Prince Edward Island’s historical Black community and invites participants to engage with lesser-known stories from the Island’s past. The tour is free to attend. \nBeginning at Beaconsfield Historic House\, the tour leads visitors through the former site of The Bog\, a 19th-century racially integrated neighbourhood\, which included free and formerly enslaved individuals and their descendants. Through carefully researched storytelling\, the tour brings to life a vibrant community that once stood in contrast to the grandeur of nearby estates. \nVisitors will explore locations that highlight the experiences\, resilience\, and contributions of Bog residents\, such as Samuel Martin and Kesiah Sheppard\, co-founders of the Bog\, or educator Sarah Harvie\, who taught for many years at the Bog school. \nEnhancements and updates to the tour route and programming are ready for 2026\, offering new perspectives and experiences. \nIn July and August\, the Bog Tour will be offered from Monday to Saturday at 11 am and 2 pm\, and Sundays at 12 pm. \nFor more information\, call 902-368-6600\, visit peimuseum.ca\, or follow @heritagepei on social media.

SUMMARY:DancEmergence
DESCRIPTION:DancEmergence takes the stage at The Arts Guild in Charlottetown on July 12 at 1 pm. \nDancEmergence is a studio showcase featuring dancers who have returned to studio life\, their art\, and themselves. \nThe performance features interdisciplinary dance forms from around the globe\, including new works by Annanaya Bindal\, alongside impactful guest solo performances\, helping to infuse global perspectives into Charlottetown’s expanding dance scene. The performances are fresh takes on global dance traditions\, including Kathak\, Tango\, Bollywood\, Garba\, Ballet\, Salsa\, and Bellydance. They highlight the skills\, training\, expertise\, and energy that exists in the Island’s dance community. These life-long dancers each paused the dance they loved\, and then found the courage to restart again while living on PEI. Each piece marks something lived\, something shed\, something finally ready to be seen. \nThe showcase is part of the Guild’s CultureShift program\, supported by the Province of PEI. The dancers are associates of Buenos Island Studio in Charlottetown. \nCash donations will be accepted\, to support Hospice PEI’s Dancing With the Stars fundraiser. \nFor tickets and full programming details\, visit theguildpei.com.

SUMMARY:Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead Lunch & Lecture Series: “The Spirit of ’76—PEI’s Back-to-the-Land & Environmental Movements of 50 Years Ago”
DESCRIPTION:The Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead’s Lunch & Lecture Series returns this summer\, with events taking place on Sundays at 1 pm throughout July and August. Each event begins with a meal followed by a guest speaker. Built in 1856 as a farmhouse\, the Homestead was purchased by the Macphail family in 1864\, the same year Sir Andrew Macphail was born. \nToday\, it operates as a community museum celebrating the life and legacy of the renowned doctor\, scholar\, writer\, and editor. In addition to his medical career\, Macphail wrote for newspapers\, magazines\, and journals\, published ten books\, and was knighted after the First World War for his contributions to military field medicine and literature. The Lunch & Lecture Series is a fundraiser for the Macphail Foundation. \nOn July 12\, Alan MacEachern will present “The Spirit of ’76: PEI’s Back-to-the-Land & Environmental Movements of 50 Years Ago.” In 1976\, PEI embarked on an ambitious project: to become a showcase to the world for the research and use of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies. The plan did not pan out\, but the people that it attracted to the Island stayed and transformed the province. \nTo register\, email macphailhomestead@gmail.com or call 902-651-2789. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical returns for its 22nd season this spring with a milestone debut: Island performer Holly Perry will take on the role of Anne Shirley for the first time\, wearing the original Anne dress created for the musical’s first season in 2005. \nThe 26-year-old Acadian performer from Prince County has been part of the cast since 2022\, but 2026 marks her first season in the title role. The historic costume she will wear was designed for the show’s premiere at the Victoria Playhouse in Victoria-by-the-Sea\, PEI\, more than two decades ago\, and hasn’t been worn since. \nThe original costume reflects the character’s Island roots: simple\, practical and earth-toned\, with shades of green reminiscent of PEI fields and rust-coloured trim echoing the province’s soil. While inspired by late-19th-century fashion\, the dress was designed for movement and performance rather than strict historical rigidity. This is\, of course\, much like Anne herself\, who refuses to be constrained by convention. \nThough Anne & Gilbert is often promoted as the love story between Anne and her childhood rival\, the heart of the musical is Anne’s own journey—her determination\, imagination and refusal to be diminished. \nFeaturing a 20-member cast and orchestra\, Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical runs from May 5 to October 26 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown.  \nTickets are available online via anneandgilbert.com

SUMMARY:Love Local Live ft. Max Keenlyside
DESCRIPTION:Love Local Live in Historic North Bedeque School Hall features local songwriters and artists on Sundays at 3–4:30 pm in July and August. \nMax Keenlyside on will perform on July 12. \nMax Keenlyside is a pianist and composer from Canada. He first got involved in music at the age of 9\, and since then has ammassed a formidable roster of over 60 original compositions. Max is also known for his stride and “Jelly Roll” Morton chops\, as well as a firm grounding in the ragtime piano tradition. A favorite at jazz and ragtime festivals across North America\, and a PEI representative in the Canadian National Artist’s Program held in conjunction with the 2010 Olympics\, pianist and composer Max Keenlyside is a “musician’s musician” in the very best sense. \nKeenlyside plays with plenty of pep and energy (but never too fast!) and his performances are laced with humor\, all the while remaining faithful to the spirit and intent of the original composers. He is known especially for his renditions of pieces by Jelly Roll Morton\, James P. Johnson\, Eubie Blake\, and other stride and early jazz composers. Max’s first album\, KeenlyStride\, was released in May of 2010. He currently lives in Charlottetown\, pursuing various musical projects. \nInfo: peifoxden.ca

This joyful and surprisingly revelatory doc might be the greatest pop-music story you don’t already know. Six degrees of separation? Asher apparently has just one. SUMMARY:Searching for Abegweit: The Island Songs & Stories of Lennie Gallant
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, Summerside’s Harbourfront Theatre is bringing home the multimedia production Searching for Abegweit: The Island Songs & Stories of Lennie Gallant. Only four performances will run at 7:30 pm on July 12 and 21\, and August 11 and 12. \nThe Order of Canada recipient and multi-award-winning songwriter leads his band on a journey that spans the Mi’kmaq legends of Abegweit to the modern-day tall tales that define Island life. The auditory experience is heightened by a visual backdrop featuring hundreds of paintings by Lennie’s sister\, the celebrated PEI artist Karen Gallant\, which dance across a massive screen in a synchronized marriage of music and canvas. \nThe return of this production is a cornerstone of the theatre’s landmark 30th-anniversary celebrations\, serving as a homecoming for both the artist and the community. \nGallant’s storytelling offers a look into the past\, present\, and future of PEI. The show balances the poignant with the humorous\, inviting the audience to laugh\, cry\, and dance in their seats. \nVisit harbourfronttheatre.com to purchase tickets.
