SUMMARY:The Bog Tour
DESCRIPTION:Beaconsfield Historic House announced the return of the Bog Tour\, an immersive guided walking experience exploring the history of Charlottetown’s Bog neighbourhood. This powerful program honours the legacy of Prince Edward Island’s historical Black community and invites participants to engage with lesser-known stories from the Island’s past. The tour is free to attend. \nBeginning at Beaconsfield Historic House\, the tour leads visitors through the former site of The Bog\, a 19th-century racially integrated neighbourhood\, which included free and formerly enslaved individuals and their descendants. Through carefully researched storytelling\, the tour brings to life a vibrant community that once stood in contrast to the grandeur of nearby estates. \nVisitors will explore locations that highlight the experiences\, resilience\, and contributions of Bog residents\, such as Samuel Martin and Kesiah Sheppard\, co-founders of the Bog\, or educator Sarah Harvie\, who taught for many years at the Bog school. \nEnhancements and updates to the tour route and programming are ready for 2026\, offering new perspectives and experiences. \nIn July and August\, the Bog Tour will be offered from Monday to Saturday at 11 am and 2 pm\, and Sundays at 12 pm. \nFor more information\, call 902-368-6600\, visit peimuseum.ca\, or follow @heritagepei on social media.

SUMMARY:Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead Lunch & Lecture Series: “The Bygone Days … and Food!”
DESCRIPTION:The Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead’s Lunch & Lecture Series returns this summer\, with events taking place on Sundays at 1 pm throughout July and August. Each event begins with a meal followed by a guest speaker. Built in 1856 as a farmhouse\, the Homestead was purchased by the Macphail family in 1864\, the same year Sir Andrew Macphail was born. \nToday\, it operates as a community museum celebrating the life and legacy of the renowned doctor\, scholar\, writer\, and editor. In addition to his medical career\, Macphail wrote for newspapers\, magazines\, and journals\, published ten books\, and was knighted after the First World War for his contributions to military field medicine and literature. The Lunch & Lecture Series is a fundraiser for the Macphail Foundation. \nThe series begins on July 5 with “The Bygone Days … and Food!” presented by Dutch Thompson and Jill Birtwistle. The afternoon includes bannock\, pork fruitcake and creameaters and features stories about hard-working cooks in lumber camps and lobster factories\, plus the woman who drove a thousand miles to repay her father’s general store food bill… 70 years later. \nTo register\, email macphailhomestead@gmail.com or call 902-651-2789. SUMMARY:The PEI Legion Choir: Edges of the Mosaic with Terry Kelly
DESCRIPTION:The PEI Legion Choir will present Edges of the Mosaic featuring acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Terry Kelly on July 5 at 2 pm at Under the Spire at Historic St. Mary’s in Indian River. \nTerry Kelly is a renowned Canadian singer-songwriter\, entertainer\, speaker\, and athlete. Appointed to the Order of Canada in 2003\, he has released seven full-length recordings and earned seven ECMAs\, four CCMAs\, and a JUNO Award. His music has taken him around the world. He is perhaps best known for his song “A Pittance of Time.” \nBorn in St. John’s\, Newfoundland\, Terry lost his sight as a young child due to retinoblastoma and later attended the Halifax School for the Blind. As a professional speaker\, he encourages audiences to “see in their mind”—to understand how they see themselves\, others\, and the world. \nThis concert marks the final performance of Edges of the Mosaic\, a program that brings together choral music and storytelling to explore themes of identity\, resilience\, service\, and belonging. A central thread of the program reflects on the experience of service members and veterans\, particularly those who have served while navigating the challenges of being “the first” or “the only” within their units. \nVisit underthespire.ca for tickets.

SUMMARY:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical returns for its 22nd season this spring with a milestone debut: Island performer Holly Perry will take on the role of Anne Shirley for the first time\, wearing the original Anne dress created for the musical’s first season in 2005. \nThe 26-year-old Acadian performer from Prince County has been part of the cast since 2022\, but 2026 marks her first season in the title role. The historic costume she will wear was designed for the show’s premiere at the Victoria Playhouse in Victoria-by-the-Sea\, PEI\, more than two decades ago\, and hasn’t been worn since. \nThe original costume reflects the character’s Island roots: simple\, practical and earth-toned\, with shades of green reminiscent of PEI fields and rust-coloured trim echoing the province’s soil. While inspired by late-19th-century fashion\, the dress was designed for movement and performance rather than strict historical rigidity. This is\, of course\, much like Anne herself\, who refuses to be constrained by convention. \nThough Anne & Gilbert is often promoted as the love story between Anne and her childhood rival\, the heart of the musical is Anne’s own journey—her determination\, imagination and refusal to be diminished. \nFeaturing a 20-member cast and orchestra\, Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical runs from May 5 to October 26 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown.  \nTickets are available online via anneandgilbert.com

SUMMARY:Séan McCann — Sink or Swim
DESCRIPTION:Séan McCann\, co-founder of Great Big Sea\, returns with a new set of original songs\, alongside popular favourites\, at the Victoria Playhouse on July 5 at 7:30 pm. \nBetween constant noise\, relentless headlines\, and the pressure to keep moving without pause\, Sink Or Swim asks a simple but vital question: how do we stay afloat when the world feels louder\, faster and heavier by the day? \nArmed only with his guitar\, and an unwavering commitment to truth\, Séan invites audiences into a shared space of reflection\, resilience\, and release where singing isn’t optional\, it’s essential. These are songs about the undertow and what we do to resist it. About finding your breath when everything feels urgent. About choosing presence over panic\, connection over isolation\, and humanity over noise. \n
