SUMMARY:The Bog Tour
DESCRIPTION:Beaconsfield Historic House announced the return of the Bog Tour\, an immersive guided walking experience exploring the history of Charlottetown’s Bog neighbourhood. This powerful program honours the legacy of Prince Edward Island’s historical Black community and invites participants to engage with lesser-known stories from the Island’s past. The tour is free to attend. \nBeginning at Beaconsfield Historic House\, the tour leads visitors through the former site of The Bog\, a 19th-century racially integrated neighbourhood\, which included free and formerly enslaved individuals and their descendants. Through carefully researched storytelling\, the tour brings to life a vibrant community that once stood in contrast to the grandeur of nearby estates. \nVisitors will explore locations that highlight the experiences\, resilience\, and contributions of Bog residents\, such as Samuel Martin and Kesiah Sheppard\, co-founders of the Bog\, or educator Sarah Harvie\, who taught for many years at the Bog school. \nEnhancements and updates to the tour route and programming are ready for 2026\, offering new perspectives and experiences. \nIn July and August\, the Bog Tour will be offered from Monday to Saturday at 11 am and 2 pm\, and Sundays at 12 pm. \nFor more information\, call 902-368-6600\, visit peimuseum.ca\, or follow @heritagepei on social media.

SUMMARY:Mi’kmaq Storytelling Series
DESCRIPTION:The Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI (MCPEI) has partnered with the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation to bring vibrant cultural programming to Basin Head Provincial Park this summer. The weekly Mi’kmaq Storytelling Series will feature cultural performances on Saturdays at 1:30 pm\, July 4–August 29 (except July 11 and August 8)\, and Mini Mawio’mis on select Sundays at 2 pm\, July 12–August 9. The series is free to attend\, and performances will move indoors to the Basin Head Fisheries Museum in case of inclement weather. \nThe Mi’kmaq Storytelling Series is a celebration of Indigenous culture\, inviting Islanders and visitors alike to experience traditional Mi’kmaq storytelling\, singing\, drumming\, and dancing. Led by Epekwitk’s own Mi’kmaq Storyteller Julie Pellissier-Lush and the Mi’kmaq Heritage Actors\, these captivating performances honour the rich traditions\, history\, and spirit of the Mi’kmaq People. \nThe series was launched in 2024 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Basin Head Marine Protected Area — the only marine protected area on PEI. Coordinated by MCPEI’s Integrated Resource Management Team\, the program celebrates the deep connection between the Mi’kmaq people and the land and ocean\, while highlighting the shared responsibility to protect and preserve our marine environment. \nMawio’mi\, meaning “gathering” in Mi’kmaq\, is a joyful cultural celebration where First Nations communities come together to share traditions through drumming\, dancing\, storytelling\, and more. \nVisit mcpei.ca/events for more information.
