SUMMARY:City Cinema: Rules of Living
DESCRIPTION:Comedy/Drama. PG.\nDir: Greg Dale\, Japan\, 2024\, 109 min.\nKaho Minami\, Greg Dale\, Mayuko Kawakita\, Jeffrey Rowe.\nIn Japanese and English with subtitles in both languages.\nWinner Best Feature Film Comedy\, Sedona International Film Festival\nCanadian Theatrical Premiere \n“The writer-director (and star)\, Greg Dale\, is a Japan-based New Yorker… The producer\, Jeffrey Rowe\, is a filmmaker and actor based between Japan and Canada [He grew up in Montague P.E.I.]… Rules of Living stars the always great Kaho Minami as Mikuko Abe\, a career woman who’s living alone after her divorce and her mother’s move into hospice care. She’s stuck in a job she doesn’t love and a relationship with an elite businessman that gives her no real pleasure; and she can’t get her irresponsible daughter to listen to her. When Vincent\, an American who has met said daughter overseas\, shows up on her doorstep and asks to stay ‘just for 3 months\,’ she’d like nothing to do with him. But he has money for rent\, so Mikuko reluctantly agrees to let him stay in a spare room. After weeks of often hilarious miscommunications\, the oddball roommates begin to start talking about themselves. As they navigate cultural differences and discuss societal expectations\, each begins to make discoveries that eventually help them find a new sense of purpose.” –Tokyo Filmgoer

SUMMARY:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical returns for its 22nd season this spring with a milestone debut: Island performer Holly Perry will take on the role of Anne Shirley for the first time\, wearing the original Anne dress created for the musical’s first season in 2005. \nThe 26-year-old Acadian performer from Prince County has been part of the cast since 2022\, but 2026 marks her first season in the title role. The historic costume she will wear was designed for the show’s premiere at the Victoria Playhouse in Victoria-by-the-Sea\, PEI\, more than two decades ago\, and hasn’t been worn since. \nThe original costume reflects the character’s Island roots: simple\, practical and earth-toned\, with shades of green reminiscent of PEI fields and rust-coloured trim echoing the province’s soil. While inspired by late-19th-century fashion\, the dress was designed for movement and performance rather than strict historical rigidity. This is\, of course\, much like Anne herself\, who refuses to be constrained by convention. \nThough Anne & Gilbert is often promoted as the love story between Anne and her childhood rival\, the heart of the musical is Anne’s own journey—her determination\, imagination and refusal to be diminished. \nFeaturing a 20-member cast and orchestra\, Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical runs from May 5 to October 26 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown.  \nTickets are available online via anneandgilbert.com
