SUMMARY:Quartette: Four Voices in Fibre Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The spring art rotation at The Gallery – Coffee House & Bistro in Charlottetown features Quartette: Four Voices in Fibre\, an exhibition of rug hooking works by New Brunswick artist Katherine DeVere-Pettigrew and Prince Edward Island artists Carol Gabanna\, Carol Moffatt\, and Darlene Rhodenizer. The exhibition runs from March 2 to May 31 at 82 Great George Street\, Charlottetown. \nQuartette: Four Voices in Fibre presents the work of four contemporary fibre artists whose practices are rooted in rug hooking and expanded through experimentation. Working on PEI and in NB\, the artists are connected by a shared passion for self-expression and creativity\, and a deep engagement with fibre\, colour\, and loops of yarn. Together\, these four voices form a quartette—where individual approaches coexist in collective visual harmony. They share a love of shaping the quiet elegance of wool and hope visitors will be delighted\, inspired\, and curious. \nThe artists will celebrate the launch of their show with a free Opening Reception on March 5 from 6–8 pm. Everyone is welcome. The exhibition can be viewed during regular café hours\, 8 am–5 pm daily. All pieces are for sale.

DESCRIPTION:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical returns for its 22nd season this spring with a milestone debut: Island performer Holly Perry will take on the role of Anne Shirley for the first time\, wearing the original Anne dress created for the musical’s first season in 2005. \nThe 26-year-old Acadian performer from Prince County has been part of the cast since 2022\, but 2026 marks her first season in the title role. The historic costume she will wear was designed for the show’s premiere at the Victoria Playhouse in Victoria-by-the-Sea\, PEI\, more than two decades ago\, and hasn’t been worn since. \nThe original costume reflects the character’s Island roots: simple\, practical and earth-toned\, with shades of green reminiscent of PEI fields and rust-coloured trim echoing the province’s soil. While inspired by late-19th-century fashion\, the dress was designed for movement and performance rather than strict historical rigidity. This is\, of course\, much like Anne herself\, who refuses to be constrained by convention. \nThough Anne & Gilbert is often promoted as the love story between Anne and her childhood rival\, the heart of the musical is Anne’s own journey—her determination\, imagination and refusal to be diminished. \nFeaturing a 20-member cast and orchestra\, Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical runs from May 5 to October 26 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown.  \nTickets are available online via anneandgilbert.com

DESCRIPTION:The Country Legends Tribute Show returns to Kings Playhouse in Georgetown on May 27 at 7:30 pm. \nGordon Cormier and Dave Pike\, both from Newfoundland\, have been delighting Playhouse audiences for years with their renditions of country classics. Expect favourites from Charley Pride\, George Jones\, Conway Twitty\, Merle Haggard\, and Johnny Cash\, along with Newfoundland songs\, jigs\, and reels. \nGordon Cormier\, formerly of the family group The Cormiers\, earning six MusicNL awards and an ECMA nomination for Group of the Year (2008). He’s also performed solo for over 40 years\, playing a wide range of instruments\, including guitar\, mandolin\, fiddle\, pedal steel\, bouzouki\, button accordion\, banjo\, harmonica\, and bagpipes. \nDave Pike\, formerly of the duo Dave & Aubrey\, is known for hits like “Bartender’s Sweetheart” and “Little Jimmy’s Christmas.” Signed by RCA Records\, the duo received a CCMA nomination in 1982. SUMMARY:Island Musicians Unite in Memory
DESCRIPTION:A special night of music is taking place on May 27 from 7:30–9:30 pm at the Jack Blanchard Centre in Charlottetown\, in memory of Island musicians who have passed away. This will be the second annual event to honour and remember all the musicians the community loses each year to age\, illness\, or other tragic events.\n\nThe concert will feature a cast of Island musicians including Niall MacKay\, David Altass\, Paul Chandler\, Gary Cudmore\, Gerry Hickey\, Norman Stewart\, Maxine MacLennan\, Kelley Mooney\, Cynthia MacLeod\, and Kim Albert\, as well the host band of Kendall Docherty\, Peter Burke\, Brian Knox\, Brian Langille and Brian Blacquiere. This concert will serve as a fundraiser for the second annual PEI Musicians Legacy Award\, a Memorial Bursary which will be distributed to high schools across the Island to a student who is graduating from Grade 12 that plans on following a musical path in life. Last year’s fundraising concert seen 11 graduating students receive a $350 bursary.\n\nAdmission is at the door. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the cause.
