SUMMARY:Quartette: Four Voices in Fibre Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The spring art rotation at The Gallery – Coffee House & Bistro in Charlottetown features Quartette: Four Voices in Fibre\, an exhibition of rug hooking works by New Brunswick artist Katherine DeVere-Pettigrew and Prince Edward Island artists Carol Gabanna\, Carol Moffatt\, and Darlene Rhodenizer. The exhibition runs from March 2 to May 31 at 82 Great George Street\, Charlottetown. \nQuartette: Four Voices in Fibre presents the work of four contemporary fibre artists whose practices are rooted in rug hooking and expanded through experimentation. Working on PEI and in NB\, the artists are connected by a shared passion for self-expression and creativity\, and a deep engagement with fibre\, colour\, and loops of yarn. Together\, these four voices form a quartette—where individual approaches coexist in collective visual harmony. They share a love of shaping the quiet elegance of wool and hope visitors will be delighted\, inspired\, and curious. \nThe artists will celebrate the launch of their show with a free Opening Reception on March 5 from 6–8 pm. Everyone is welcome. The exhibition can be viewed during regular café hours\, 8 am–5 pm daily. All pieces are for sale.

SUMMARY:Choose Your Own Knitting Adventure with Jane Whitten
DESCRIPTION:Choose your own knitting adventure with Jane Whitten at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery in Charlottetown on May 23 at 12:30 pm. Pre-registration is required. \nInspired by the playful format of the classic Choose Your Own Adventure books\, participants will create unique knitted sculptures using wool\, double-pointed needles\, stitch holders\, wire\, and stuffing. Throughout the workshop\, knitters will draw instruction cards that determine what they knit next\, ensuring that no two sculptures are alike. \nThe workshop is led by Jane Whitten\, an experimental knitter and basket maker based in North Bedeque\, Epekwitk/PEI. Whitten describes herself as a “dysfunctional knitter”\, someone who enjoys pushing beyond traditional projects like socks and sweaters to knit objects inspired by the natural environments she explores. She believes knitting can also be a creative tool for sharing social\, political\, and environmental ideas. \nThe workshop takes place at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. \nInfo/register: confederationcentre.com/artgallery

SUMMARY:PEI Legion Choir: Edges of the Mosaic
DESCRIPTION:For the Royal Canadian Legion Centennial Celebration 2026\, the PEI Legion Choir will present the concert Edges of the Mosaic on May 23 at 2 pm at St. Andrew’s United in Vernon Bridge\, and on May 26 at 7 pm at St. Paul’s Anglican in Charlottetown. \nThis season\, the PEI Legion Choir seeks to illuminate the works of composers whose identities—shaped by race\, gender\, sexuality\, heritage\, and ability—have too often placed them at the margins. The choir believes that when such music is given space to be heard\, our understanding of each  other becomes richer\, more honest\, and more complete. \nThrough music and story\, the choir recognizes a vital parallel between these composers and the lived realities of veterans and members of the armed forces. For some\, the uniform conceals a complex identity. The program honours the “Double Front” faced by service members from these same minority communities: those who defend the nation while navigating the weight of being “the first” or “the only” within their ranks\, and who face prejudice while at home. \nThese songs serve as witness to a profound strength of character—the grit to thrive in the face of exclusion\, and the courage to forge a path of hope from the heaviest internal battles. Together\, they define a mosaic in which every contribution—every person—is an essential part of what it means to be Canadian. \nAdmission is at the door.

SUMMARY:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical returns for its 22nd season this spring with a milestone debut: Island performer Holly Perry will take on the role of Anne Shirley for the first time\, wearing the original Anne dress created for the musical’s first season in 2005. \nThe 26-year-old Acadian performer from Prince County has been part of the cast since 2022\, but 2026 marks her first season in the title role. The historic costume she will wear was designed for the show’s premiere at the Victoria Playhouse in Victoria-by-the-Sea\, PEI\, more than two decades ago\, and hasn’t been worn since. \nThe original costume reflects the character’s Island roots: simple\, practical and earth-toned\, with shades of green reminiscent of PEI fields and rust-coloured trim echoing the province’s soil. While inspired by late-19th-century fashion\, the dress was designed for movement and performance rather than strict historical rigidity. This is\, of course\, much like Anne herself\, who refuses to be constrained by convention. \nThough Anne & Gilbert is often promoted as the love story between Anne and her childhood rival\, the heart of the musical is Anne’s own journey—her determination\, imagination and refusal to be diminished. \nFeaturing a 20-member cast and orchestra\, Anne & Gilbert\, The Musical runs from May 5 to October 26 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown.  \nTickets are available online via anneandgilbert.com

SUMMARY:Common Sound Concert Series
DESCRIPTION:Common Sound launches on May 23 at 7 pm at Beaconsfield Carriage House in Charlottetown. \nThe curated\, year-round concert series presents one concert each month\, featuring artists from across Atlantic Canada. It serves as an artistic bridge\, bringing genres\, audiences\, and artists together through intentionally eclectic programming. Each concert is grounded in a shared commitment to musical quality. \nFounded and organized by composer Sandro Manzon after returning to Canada following several years in Europe\, Common Sound will take place in venues across Charlottetown\, with each event shaped by its own atmosphere and musical character. \nThe opening concert will begin with a short set of contemporary Canadian minimalist piano music\, followed by a guest set from Ray Knorr and Romy Munkres\, whose twin fiddle playing draws from Canadian and American traditions\, classical training\, and a wide range of influences. Headlining the night is Pallmer\, an experimental chamber-pop trio from Fredericton\, New Brunswick\, whose sound draws on classical music and sound art while combining cello\, viola\, synthesizers\, and vocals in fluid\, genre-crossing ways. \nWith future concerts already in development\, Common Sound hopes to offer Charlottetown audiences a welcoming new place to encounter excellent live music from both local and visiting artists. The series is rooted in the belief that thoughtful programming can do more than present great performances. It can bring people together\, spark new artistic connections\, and help build a stronger Atlantic Canadian music community. \nAdmission is at the door with a pay-what-you-can option.

SUMMARY:May-hem with Side Hustle: Live Improv Comedy
DESCRIPTION:May-hem with Side Hustle will be on stage at The Arts Guild in Charlottetown on May 23 at 7:30 pm. \nMay-hem is what happens when a group of quick-witted improvisers take the stage with nothing but audience suggestions and a healthy disregard for having a plan. Every scene\, character\, and ridiculous plot twist is made up on the spot\, which means absolutely anything can happen—and usually does. It might be brilliant\, it might be absurd\, it might spiral into glorious chaos\, but one thing’s guaranteed: Side Hustle is unleashing full-blown May-hem. \nTickets are available online at theguildpei.com.
