SUMMARY:Quartette: Four Voices in Fibre Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The spring art rotation at The Gallery – Coffee House & Bistro in Charlottetown features Quartette: Four Voices in Fibre\, an exhibition of rug hooking works by New Brunswick artist Katherine DeVere-Pettigrew and Prince Edward Island artists Carol Gabanna\, Carol Moffatt\, and Darlene Rhodenizer. The exhibition runs from March 2 to May 31 at 82 Great George Street\, Charlottetown. \nQuartette: Four Voices in Fibre presents the work of four contemporary fibre artists whose practices are rooted in rug hooking and expanded through experimentation. Working on PEI and in NB\, the artists are connected by a shared passion for self-expression and creativity\, and a deep engagement with fibre\, colour\, and loops of yarn. Together\, these four voices form a quartette—where individual approaches coexist in collective visual harmony. They share a love of shaping the quiet elegance of wool and hope visitors will be delighted\, inspired\, and curious. \nThe artists will celebrate the launch of their show with a free Opening Reception on March 5 from 6–8 pm. Everyone is welcome. The exhibition can be viewed during regular café hours\, 8 am–5 pm daily. All pieces are for sale.

SUMMARY:Island Jubilee Old Time Music Radio Show
DESCRIPTION:The Island Jubilee Old Time Radio Music Show’s 2025–26 season finale will take place on April 19 at 2 pm at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown. Special guests include PEI artists Scott MacKay\, Keira Loane\, and Blake Crockett. \nFollowing a season of sold-out performances celebrating country and East Coast musical heritage\, the finale promises an afternoon of heartfelt country music\, stories\, and Island pride. Backed by the Jubilee All-Star Band\, the show captures the warmth and charm that have made Island Jubilee a beloved regional tradition.  \nRooted in the golden era of 1950s country\, Scott MacKay brings a sound rich in nostalgia and storytelling. His ECMA Award-winning album Stupid Cupid features ten original tracks blending twangy Telecasters\, pedal steel\, and witty lyricism. A multiple Calgary Music Award nominee and CBC Searchlight contender\, MacKay will perform songs from the album along with some of his favourite Hank Williams tunes. \nWith roots in both PEI and Cape Breton\, Keira Loane is a standout voice in Atlantic Canadian country. Known for her powerful vocals and heartfelt songwriting\, she performs solo and with her band\, Keira Loane & the Commons. Her recent single “Blueberry Jam” has been warmly received\, and her debut EP Last Words & Love Letters is set for release later this year. \nBlake Crockett is the lead singer\, rhythm guitarist\, and songwriter for the country rock band Old Stone Station. He has shared the stage with Janet McGarry and Wildwood and now performs with the rising bluegrass group Bad Hoss. Raised on classic country storytelling\, he brings honesty\, heart\, and emotion to his performances. \nRepresentatives from the QEH Foundation will be in attendance to present the guitar raffle prize and accept the funds raised throughout the season. \nAll performances are recorded for broadcast on Tantramar 107.9FM CFTA\, and previous recordings will be available at tantramarfm.ca. \nTickets are available at ticketpro.ca\, in person at the box office\, or by phone at 1-888-311-9090. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:City Cinema: Horseshoe
DESCRIPTION:Drama/Comedy. 14A\, coarse language\, violence\, mature themes.\nDir: Edwin Mullane/Adam O’Keeffe\, Ireland\, 2025\, 88 min.\nCarolyn Bracken\, John Connors\, Lalor Roddy.\nWinner\, Best Irish First Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh.\nSponsored by the Benevolent Irish Society. \n“The combustible set-up is familiar: a traumatised family\, a contested inheritance and a house rattling with difficult history. But Horseshoe reinvents this dog-eared premise with dark humour and a keen understanding of the emotional complexities underpinning huge family rows. Jer and Evan have never left the outsize rural home that father Colm ruled with an iron fist. They are a study in arrested development… Meanwhile… Cass is close to losing her house; Niall\, a yoga practitioner\, is being drained financially and psychologically by a custody battle. Tension surges as soon as they’re all in the same room – and only escalates when a solicitor announces they have 24 hours to unanimously decide how to settle the estate or risk everything going to the State. The returnees are desperate to sell the house; the remainers will do anything to keep their home. Old alliances and grudges swiftly resurface. O’Keeffe’s well-observed script sketches a family who communicate through barbs\, sullen silences and unwanted cups of tea… The film’s locations\, notably the characterful\, lonely house on the Sligo-Donegal border\, are framed with grey\, rough-hewn beauty… Horseshoe was a deserving winner of the award for best Irish first feature at Galway Film Fleadh and a fine opening gambit for the film-making duo.” —Tara Brady\, The Irish Times \n
