UPEI Student Design Expo and Awards Ceremony

The UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering will hold its annual Student Design Expo and Awards Ceremony, which will showcase this year’s student design projects on April 19 from 1–3 pm at the UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering building, 550 University Ave. UPEI invites members of the media to the opening of the event starting at 1 pm, followed by public viewing and judging at 1:10 pm.

The purpose of the Student Design Expo is to demonstrate how student teams bring creative solutions and immense value to their projects. The expo is an exciting time for UPEI Engineering students as it gives them an opportunity to showcase the outcome of their design clinic projects for 2023–24.
Some examples of projects include Year 2 students designing a process and equipment for manually removing downed and damaged tree from the woods with minimal damage to the blueberry plants and Year 4 students designing a smart trash bin that automatically detects and analyzes users’ waste. It sends these analytics to a smartphone app that can track users’ waste habits and provide them with personalized suggestions on how they can optimize their purchasing and disposal habits.
The expo is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. The Student Design Expo will include 12 project teams (doing seven projects) for Year 1, 14 project teams for Year 2, 12 project teams for Year 3, and 12 project teams for Year 4.
