The PEI Legion Choir: Spirit Community Choral Concert

The Prince Edward Island Legion Choir’s choral concert titled Spirit promises an afternoon of sublime harmonies and soul-stirring melodies on May 19 at St. Andrew’s United Church in Vernon Bridge at 3 pm.

The concert will be anchored by John Rutter’s “Feel the Spirit;” a collection of African-American spirituals. From the style of exuberant Dixieland with saucy clarinet, and trombone solos, to somber, dark and intense, Rutter conjures up the depth of feelings for which these spirituals are noted. A 12-piece wind ensemble will interweave seamlessly with the choir, along with the acclaimed mezzo-soprano soloist, Sylvia Mutch, whose powerful vocals resonate with the spiritual story depicted in Rutter’s masterpiece. The concert will also feature choral favorites: “Away from the Roll of the Sea,” “The Log Driver’s Waltz,” Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” and more.

There will be a light reception following the concert. Tickets available at the door.
