The MacMaster Leahy Family

In the world of Canadian traditional music, Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy are recognized for their platinum records and JUNO Awards. This August, the “First Family of Fiddle” will take the stage at Harbourfront Theatre alongside their seven children.

As part of the theatre’s 30th-anniversary celebrations, the MacMaster Leahy Family will present two performances on August 16 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm. This concert is a dynamic showcase of a musical dynasty in motion. While Natalie and Donnell provide the world-class virtuosity that made them household names, their children bring a fresh, high-energy fusion of piano, guitar, accordion, and step-dancing to the stage.

The family’s evolution is is reflected in the work of their eldest, 19-year-old Mary Frances Leahy. Since releasing her debut solo album in 2024, she has toured as far as Australia, earned multiple Canadian Folk Music Award nominations, and recorded with legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

The program includes traditional folk music, jazz-influenced vocals, step-dancing, and the pounding drum grooves that give this family their signature contemporary edge.
