Seaside Theatre Co. Presents: Black Comedy

Presented By Seaside Theatre Co. and written by Peter Shaffer, Black Comedy will hit the stage at The Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre in Summerside on May 1–4.

Black Comedy is a British farce with a twist. Brinsley Miller has borrowed expensive furniture from the absent antique dealer next door, hoping to impress his fiancé’s father and a wealthy art dealer. The fussy neighbour returns just as a blown fuse plunges the apartment into darkness. Brinsley has to return the furniture before the lights are fixed, while dealing with unexpected guests, aging spinsters, and even tangled phone cords.

The twist: when the stage lights are on, the characters think they are in the dark; when the stage lights are off, they think they are in the light. This reversal of light/dark means the audience can see when the characters can’t. As the evening gets more and more chaotic, hilarity ensues as Brinsley tries to salvage the evening from one disaster after another.

The cast includes Mark Enman, Dominique Lapierre, Carol-Anne Luddington, Zachary Martin, Emmeline Meister, Shelley Schurman, Meghan Skerry, and Ashley Vautour. Directed by Stuart Smith and Al Harrington and stage managed by Vanessa MacArthur and Katie Kelly.

Showtime is 7:30 pm.
