Searching for Abegweit: The Island Songs & Stories of Lennie Gallant

This summer, Summerside’s Harbourfront Theatre is bringing home the multimedia production Searching for Abegweit: The Island Songs & Stories of Lennie Gallant. Only four performances will run at 7:30 pm on July 12 and 21, and August 11 and 12.

The Order of Canada recipient and multi-award-winning songwriter leads his band on a journey that spans the Mi’kmaq legends of Abegweit to the modern-day tall tales that define Island life. The auditory experience is heightened by a visual backdrop featuring hundreds of paintings by Lennie’s sister, the celebrated PEI artist Karen Gallant, which dance across a massive screen in a synchronized marriage of music and canvas.

The return of this production is a cornerstone of the theatre’s landmark 30th-anniversary celebrations, serving as a homecoming for both the artist and the community.

Gallant’s storytelling offers a look into the past, present, and future of PEI. The show balances the poignant with the humorous, inviting the audience to laugh, cry, and dance in their seats.
