River Clyde Solstice Walk

The fourth edition of the River Clyde Solstice Walk returns to New Glasgow from 6-8 pm on December 21, with a procession of illuminated lanterns, outdoor performances, bonfires and music. The Solstice Walk celebrates the promise of light on the darkest day of the year. Participants are invited to join the walk with a lantern, candle or light, travelling through the Gardens of Hope, across the New Glasgow Bridge, and ending up at The Mill in New Glasgow for music, snacks, and bonfires. A series of outdoor performances will take place on the evening of the 21st, including live music, fire dancing, and more. The Solstice Walk will showcase nine art projects contributed by community members, with some hosted on-site at the Gardens of Hope and The Mill and others accompanying the procession. Projects include costumed characters, giant puppets and lanterns, sound art and installations. For those who don’t wish to participate in the outdoor walk, an indoor Solstice experience is offered inside the sunroom at The Mill in New Glasgow. Indoor attendees will be able to watch the lantern procession from across the river and enjoy a crafting activity, hot chocolate and cider while listening to live music by Devon Ross. Advance registration is required for both the Solstice Walk and the indoor experience. The event is pay-what-you-can, with suggested amounts for adults and children and a reduced-price family ticket. A complimentary shuttle service is also available for round-trip transportation from Charlottetown, Summerside and Kensington. A full Accessibility Guide is available online detailing the event and what to expect. The River Clyde Solstice Walk is made possible thanks to support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Government of Canada, Innovation PEI, the PEI Alliance for Mental Wellbeing and the Central Coastal Tourism Partnership.
