Catherine MacLellan: The Songs of Gene MacLellan

For decades, the songs of Gene MacLellan have echoed across the globe—sung by legends like Elvis Presley and Anne Murray—yet the quiet, working-class Islander behind the masterpieces remained an enigma to many. This summer, his daughter and multi-award-winning artist Catherine MacLellan steps into the spotlight to pull back the curtain on his life in The Songs of Gene MacLellan. Performances run July 28 and 29, and August 25 and 26 at 7:30 pm.

This production is far more than a standard tribute; it is a moving hybrid of concert and memoir. Catherine takes the audience on a personal journey through the hits that defined an era, such as the immortal “Snowbird” and the gospel-infused “Put Your Hand in the Hand.” On the Harbourfront stage, she weaves these melodies together with intimate stories of the man she knew, offering a rare glimpse into the heart of a shy songwriter who became a PEI icon.

Spanning genres from country and pop to gospel, the show serves as a “love letter” to a musical treasure trove that has long been a source of Island pride. It is a rare opportunity for audiences to witness a world-class musician honour her own lineage in an atmosphere of reverence and celebration.
