Amateur Radio Field Day

The Charlottetown Amateur Radio Club’s Field Day has been an annual event since 1933 and remains the most popular event in ham radio. This event will have local licensed amateur radio operators provide demonstrations for people to learn more about amateur radio and its importance in communications. Attendees can also join in the fun and with the supervision of a licensed operator make a contact with other operators from around the world over the air waves. Club members will set up radio stations to talk to other ham operators worldwide using simple antennas. They will also make contacts (QSOs) using morse code and digital FT8, and have a lot of fun “playing radio.” Field Day is a bit of a competition against other ham radio operators across North America, so local members are hoping to put PEI on the map and earn bonus points to do well in this contest. As a Parks On The Air (POTA) activity, the Charlottetown Amateur Radio Club will receive extra points in the contest. Meet and greet if interested in learning about Amateur radio or interested in getting into the hobby.
