A Very Forte Christmas

The annual Christmas-card concert of the Forte Men’s Choir will take place at The Kirk of St. James in Charlottetown on December 17 at 2:30 pm. The 16-member TTBB choir is led by Dr. Margot Rejskind, noted for her leadership of the professional Luminos Ensemble and other vocal groups, as well as her teaching at UPEI. Jacqueline Sorenson Young provides piano accompaniment, and Madeline Kapp MacDonald’s violin and Ross Boyd’s guitar will add to some of the pieces. December is full of Christmastime concerts but what makes this one different is the rich four-part blend of male voices, which give such warm depth to a hearty rendition of “God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen” and “The First Noel” woven with the strains of Pachelbel’s Canon. Guests can get a feel for this concert from the lines of some of the pieces; “A time for joy, a time for love”; “a tender glow of countless stars that shine on snow”; “Lula-lulla-by”, “Alleluia”, “Peace, peace, peace”; “Believe—in what your heart is saying … and give your dreams the wings to fly.” Indeed, Forte does believe that the afternoon will be a sharing of the sense of joyous wonder. The guys can also have a bit of silly fun, with a tip-of-the-hat to Dr. Seuss, in “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”  They’ll also drink (musically) to the New Year with “We Toast the Days” and an instrumentally enhanced version of “Auld Lang Syne”. As well, there’s the Forte tradition of audience sing-along of some of the best-loved carols.
