Women Comedians Showcase
Some of the country’s finest comedians—who also just happen to be women from the East Coast— will be on stage at Trailside Music Hall in Charlottetown on May 6 for the Women Comedians Showcase.
The evening will feature a slew of talent: starring Clare Belford and Maggie Estey, with openers Tamara Appleton, Rachel Matheson, and Andrea Avery, and hosted by PEI’s own mainstay comedian, Tanya Nicolle.
Clare Belford was born and raised in the most blue collar parts of oil-country Alberta, she cut her teeth early on by forcibly telling deeply personal jokes about womanhood to drunk tradesmen. Nowadays she is a veritable fixture of Canadian comedy.
Belford has performed at Just For Laughs, the New York Comedy Festival, and the Halifax Comedy Festival. She also appears on CBC’s New Wave of Stand Up and writes for This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Her debut album, The Entire Cabbage, was named one of the Best of 2021 by Bullseye on NPR.
Maggie Estey’s comedy is informed by a bizarre childhood in Sunny Corner, a tiny hamlet in the backwoods of Miramichi, NB, and mainly focuses on what she calls “pathetic woman stuff.”
Estey has performed at Hubcab Comedy Festival, Halifax Pop Explosion, Shivering Songs, and Flourish Festival. She has also appeared on multiple CBC Radio shows including DNTO and Fredericton’s Information Morning.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. Visit trailside.ca for tickets.
