PEI Asian Heritage Month Celebration Opening Ceremony

Every May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada, a time when communities across the country come together to honor Asian cultures and contributions. This year, the fourth annual PEI Asian Heritage Month celebration will be held in both Charlottetown and Summerside, showcasing the unique charm and beauty of Asian culture.

The Opening Ceremony will be held at the UPEI Performing Arts Centre in Charlottetown on May 2 at 1:30 pm, with doors opening at 12:30 pm. The Closing Ceremony will take place in Summerside at Credit Union Place on May 31 at 2 pm, with doors opening at 12:30 pm.

Over the past years, these events have been a success, drawing significant attention from Asian media and bringing together about 30 community leaders and members each time, along with nearly one million views online. These celebrations have even been featured on CBC—a testament to their growing impact. The PEI Asian Heritage Month Celebration Committee, who organizes the event, has persisted for four years and has encountered numerous challenges. Its efforts are aimed at enabling the community to understand and appreciate the uniqueness of Asian culture. The hope is that society will hear the voices of Asians, and that the Asian community will unite, engage in equal dialogue, cooperate with each other, and jointly strive to build a beautiful homeland.

The dress code for the celebration is ethnic or formal attire.
