Finding the Law Online: A Beginner’s Guide to Legal Research Using CanLII Info Session

The Law Society of PEI is giving a free public session at the Charlottetown Library on April 28 from 6:30–8 pm to introduce CanLII, a website that provides online access to Canadian legislation and court decisions from courts and tribunals across the country.

This beginner-friendly session is designed for members of the public who want to learn how to find reliable legal information online or may be curious about how to look up laws or court decisions but have little or no prior experience with legal research. During the session, participants will be guided through the basics of using CanLII, including learning how to understand the types of legal information available on the site; use keywords and search tools to locate legal information; narrow down search results; and locate the most current version of a law. No prior experience with legal research is required.
