Music PEI recently announced the delivery of the second round of the TD Diverse Voices program, a collaboration between Music PEI and FilmPEI that gives young emerging creators the opportunity to grow their craft under the guidance and mentorship of seasoned professionals from PEI’s music and film industry.

The program was designed to support emerging musicians from underrepresented communities to record and release a single under the mentorship of John MacPhee (Paper Lions), who will help participants through the recording process at a professional studio, hiring a proven producer, and hiring a professional marketing and publicity team.

FilmPEI pairs each participant with an emerging filmmaker who will work alongside the artist to produce an accompanying music video.

Round one of the programming last year—with three artists selected to record a new song and receive mentoring from Music PEI, along with three emerging filmmakers selected by FilmPEI—was a success. In particular, Emmet MacLellan’s single “Fine” received radio play across the globe.

Jessie Duarte, and Island filmmaker from Lisbon, Portugal, made her debut as a director through the Diverse Voices Program with the accompanying music video for “Fine.”

Application submissions for the second round of the TD Diverse Voices program closed in February. Successful applicants will be selected by a diverse jury of industry professionals. Stay tuned for the results.
