The 6th edition of the Congrès mondial acadien will take place August 10 to 24 in Prince Edward Island and Southeastern New Brunswick. The mission of the Congrès mondial acadien and this 15 day celebration is to unite Acadians and all those interested in Acadian culture. The Town of Souris has been chosen as one of 20 host communities.
“It will be Prince Edward Island’s first time ever hosting the Congrès mondial acadien, and we are proud to have Souris as one of our host municipalities,” said Claudette Thériault, Chair of the Congrès mondial acadien 2019. “We are confident that the exciting program they’ve prepared will contribute to showcase PEI’s Acadian heritage and pride.”
“The beautiful seaside Town of Souris is looking forward to celebrating the 135th year of the Acadian Flag and the 25th anniversary of Congrès mondial acadien. With great pride we are pleased to announce our wonderful events and share our Acadian heritage with our residents and visitors on August 12.” says Town of Souris Mayor Steve O’Brien.
“We are proud of our Acadian heritage and are excited to partner with the Town of Souris to celebrate the Congrès mondial acadien coming to Prince Edward Island. We have some exciting things planned and can’t wait to celebrate with both locals and visitors alike!” says Melissa MacDonald, Executive Director of Comité acadien et francophone de l’Est in Rollo Bay.
”Looking forward to providing some Eastern PEI hospitality,” says the The East Pointers.
