It has been a busy few months for The Charlottetown Film Society, having achieved registered charity status, purchased City Cinema, obtained a license to serve beer and wine, and applied a fresh coat of paint and branding to the Cinema lobby area.
Now, The Film Society has taken the latest big step in hiring a full-time Executive Director to manage the Cinema as well as the annual Charlottetown Film Festival. Rebecca Sly will work alongside former cinema owner Derek Martin for a few weeks and will take on the ED role officially on March 23, 2020.
Rebecca has a strong background in operations management. She has worked in the non-profit sector and has vast experience coordinating teams of volunteers and staff. Rebecca is an avid cinephile with an interest in international and independent film. In the past she has volunteered as an extra in various British television productions and films. Rebecca studied for an undergraduate degree in Fine Art and most recently a diploma in Culinary Arts at the Culinary Institute of Canada. The Film Society has many new project ideas to keep the Executive Director busy and active in the PEI film and culture community over the next few years.
