PEI author Theresa Redmond’s The Governor’s Granddaughter has won the Gold Medal for Best Regional Fiction – Canada East at the prestigious Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY). Medalists were invited to a virtual awards ceremony held in New York City on July 16, 2026.

The Governor’s Granddaughter, published in August 2025 via FriesenPress, tells a story of perseverance, female empowerment, and conflicting moral values. This sweeping story details the social and political unrest that existed for generations following the colonization of Prince Edward Island, with a focus not only on the people who pushed for much-needed fairness and change but also revealing those who worked even harder to hold them back.

Copies are available at local bookstores and other retailers across PEI, online through major booksellers, and from the author’s website.

Redmond’s debut historical novel, Bound, won several awards, including the 2024 PEI Book Award for Fiction, the Silver Medal for Best Regional Fiction – Canada East from the IPPY Awards, and a Heritage Recognition Award from the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation. Bound was also named one of Bookmark’s Top 100 Books of 2024.
