Anna’s Pink and Purple Glasses, a children’s storybook by Island author Marlene Bryenton, will be launched at Sherwood School in Sarah King’s kindergarten class, on February 19. Marlene will read from the book which is illustrated by Leanne Bowlan, a licensed optician. The book was edited by Judy Parsons and formatted by Jill Hamilton. The book is fully illustrated.

This launch coincides with the first I Read Canadian Day when children are encouraged to read a story book with Canadian content tor have a storybook read to them for 15 minutes. The children will wear pink and purple t-shirts at the launch.

Anna’s Pink and Purple Glasses is a story about empathy, inclusion, awareness and optometry. Many children are fearful about going for their first eye exam. Leanne has seen this firsthand.  This book helps to allay children’s fears regarding the exam and encourages the acceptance of glasses. Anna’s experience is positive. She is excited about her new pink and purple glasses and can’t wait to show them to her friends at school.

Marlene Bryenton had a story, Secret Garden Angel, published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Angels All Around. She is working on a second book children’s book entitled, Jaya’s Magic Wheelchair. Both books are about her grandchildren—Anna and Jaya.
