Victoria Playhouse has announced the cast of Kristen Da Silva’s Where You Are. Islanders Helen Killorn and Benton Hartley return to the Playhouse stage to take on the roles of Beth and Patrick.
Victoria Playhouse audiences may remember Helen, a born and raised Islander, who now calls Fort McMurray home from her 2016 portrayal of Mary in The Melville Boys. More recently, she was part of an independent production of Salt Water Moon in Fort McMurray in 2018. Other recent credits include Sophie in Mamma Mia! and Janet in The Drowsy Chaperone with Keyano Theatre Company.
Benton Hartley is an Island-based actor, playwright, and comedian. A graduate of George Brown Theatre School in Toronto, Benton made his professional theatre debut at the Victoria Playhouse in the comedy The Birds and The Bees in 2017. Island audiences may also recognize Benton as a member of the Popalopalots Live Improv Comedy group. Benton is also active with the Island Fringe Festival as an artist and board member and has performed as a member of the Confederation Players and Vagabond Productions.
The roles of sisters Glenda and Suzanne will be played by Francine Deschepper and Debra McCabe, respectively.
Francine is a Halifax-based actor who has worked both nationally and internationally. She has been nominated for eight Robert Merritt Awards, honouring outstanding talent in Nova Scotia theatre and twice taken home the award for outstanding performance. Among her numerous theatrical credits, some favourites include leading roles in Miracle on 34th Street, The Comedy of Errors, Marion Bridge, The Donahue Sisters, and Macbeth.
Francine says, “Where You Are had me laughing out loud from the first scene. The characters of Glenda and Suzanne were so identifiable. I have two sisters and though we love one another dearly, we all have very different personalities. Kristen da Silva captures that sibling dynamic with salty humour and just the right amount of sweet.”
Debra grew up in PEI, Quebec, and Saskatchewan and now lives in Toronto, making visits to Charlottetown each year, where her parents still reside. A Gemini winner for her role in CBC’s Guns, with another Gemini nomination for her performance in Shaftesbury’s Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures, Debra’s twenty-plus year acting career in film, tv, and theatre includes leads and guest star credits in Supernatural, Degrassi, Murdoch Mysteries, Saw, and Heartland, with stage roles ranging from Janet in the Rocky Horror Picture Show to Gertrude in Hamlet. Debra has recently wrapped her second season on the Conan O’Brien comedy series People of Earth.
Where You Are plays from June 25 to July 28 at Victoria Playhouse. For tickets visit victoriaplayhouse.com or call 1-800-925-2025.
