Since 2004, Santa’s Angels have visited hundreds of homes across the Charlottetown area on Christmas morning to help those who cannot provide gifts and food for their children and families. These surprise visits come complete with Santa, his elves, a bag full of Christmas gifts and goodies; all the fixin’s for a Christmas dinner.
Santa’s Angels is a volunteer-run registered charity based in Charlottetown, Hundreds of volunteers organize, fundraise, and carry out these visits with customized packages based upon the needs of the family. As well, Santa and his elves visit seniors’ homes, the QEH hospital, and other care facilities.
The past number of years the intention was to increase the number of homes to visit, and in December 2018 the City of Summerside was included for the first time. This year an attempt to cover more of the Island will be made by dispatching teams just prior to Christmas to give volunteers time to get to more communities on PEI.
There are a number of drop off locations where people can leave new, unwrapped toys and these will be identified on the website and Facebook page.
Anyone who is in need of help this Christmas can request to be on Santa’s List and receive a visit on Christmas morning or, in some areas, a few days before. All requests must be made via a form on the Santa’s Angels website, santasangels.ca/receive, which will be live to December 10. People can also nominate a family they know could use a cheerful Santa visit, provided the family is genuinely in need.
Santa’s Angels are asking for the public’s help to buy a ham as the centrepiece of each family dinner table. Of course they will bring gifts for the little ones, as well as a box full of food which includes fresh vegetables, eggs, bread, milk, and more alongside each donated ham.
A single $10 donation will go directly to the purchase of a ham for one family. Anyone anywhere who’d like to support Santa’s Angels can pledge a ham by visiting santasangels.ca/ham and making a secure $10 donation online.
