Community Tree Planting
The City of Charlottetown is inviting residents to take part in a community greening and tree planting event taking place on June 20 at River Ridge Park from 10 am–1 pm.
Community members are welcome to join City staff and volunteers to help transform the park from an open grassy area into a naturalized park with forested areas. This project will provide native species’ habitat, improve stormwater absorption and filtration, reduce air pollution, and help lower heat through shade and moisture released by trees. Enhancements to the park will also add seasonal visual interest, provide increased privacy for nearby residents, and include an area of edible plants for the community.
No pre-registration is required, and all planting supplies will be provided on site, including trees, tools, and gloves. Volunteers are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
This initiative is funded by Green Communities Canada through its Living Cities Canada Fund, which has supported more than 60 community greening projects across the country since 2023.
