The PEI Mussel Tear

Cycling PEI-sanctioned event The PEI Mussel Tear returns this season on August 1, with a start time of 10 am at the North Point Lighthouse.

Organized by Joey Landine and Keenan Cook, The Mussel Tear is a self-supported gravel cycling event that spans PEI from one end to the other. While many maritime cycling enthusiasts have conquered the famous Confederation Trail, this race minimizes time spent on the modern railbed and highlights some of PEI’s lesser-known red dirt roads. The 2025 edition featured just over 430 km of PEI gravel riding, and for 2026 the route will be improved.

The event takes riders through tourist hotspots such as Summerside, Cavendish, Victoria by the Sea, and Charlottetown. Bikers can enjoy these re-supply points as the majority of the ride will be nothing but red dirt, farmland and the sound of bike freewheels.
