Works from five Island artists this summer

Artwork by Fariba Tabrizian

Life in its many forms has inspired five Island artists with distinct backgrounds and creative approaches to produce visual works from their unique perspectives. Their varied styles and media will be featured in this summer’s art rotation at The Gallery – Coffee House & Bistro, 82 Great George Street in Charlottetown, from June 1 to August 31. The public is invited to attend a free opening reception on June 4 from 6–8 pm.

“Uncharted” is the joint theme of the collections by Teresa Doyle and Haley Lewis, both displayed in the main room at The Gallery.

Singer-songwriter Teresa Doyle has transformed what she has learned over decades of creating music into a series of improvisational abstract art pieces. Each piece is inspired by her love of nature, travel, and of course, her music, resulting in a free-flowing collection of colourful abstract imagery.

Haley Lewis is diving into uncharted territory with her new series. For this show, she has chosen to highlight various photos from her travels, crafting art around them using paint, handmade paper, and other elements from nature in an attempt to express the radiant yet impermanent nature of things.

The Gallery’s back rooms feature the works of artists Fariba Tabrizian Namini, Nancy L. Brown, and Vanessa Cross Bisceglia.

Fariba Tabrizian Namini is a self-taught watercolour artist. Originally from Iran and now based in PEI, she finds inspiration in the world’s quiet moments. Whether it is a calm wind at the beach or the rustic charm of a street in downtown Charlottetown, Fariba hopes to share the same joy, inner peace, and connection she experienced when creating her pieces with viewers of her collection, Peace of the Soul/Aram-e-jan.

Nancy L. Brown primarily works in fluid art, which is reflected in her collection My Life in Flow.

Vanessa Cross Bisceglia, the artist behind Cheeky Waters, has always been fascinated with watercolour art. Her work reflects the Island’s scenery, themes, flowers, and creatures.
