PEI Legion Choir: Edges of the Mosaic

For the Royal Canadian Legion Centennial Celebration 2026, the PEI Legion Choir will present the concert Edges of the Mosaic on May 23 at 2 pm at St. Andrew’s United in Vernon Bridge, and on May 26 at 7 pm at St. Paul’s Anglican in Charlottetown.

This season, the PEI Legion Choir seeks to illuminate the works of composers whose identities—shaped by race, gender, sexuality, heritage, and ability—have too often placed them at the margins. The choir believes that when such music is given space to be heard, our understanding of each  other becomes richer, more honest, and more complete.

Through music and story, the choir recognizes a vital parallel between these composers and the lived realities of veterans and members of the armed forces. For some, the uniform conceals a complex identity. The program honours the “Double Front” faced by service members from these same minority communities: those who defend the nation while navigating the weight of being “the first” or “the only” within their ranks, and who face prejudice while at home.

These songs serve as witness to a profound strength of character—the grit to thrive in the face of exclusion, and the courage to forge a path of hope from the heaviest internal battles. Together, they define a mosaic in which every contribution—every person—is an essential part of what it means to be Canadian.

Admission is at the door.
